Our GAIA Environment WeekendWe learnt about history, geography, economy, social, science and astronomy...
Our Gaia weekend started Friday afternoon where we started with dividing all tasks. We had four different topics to choose from. These topics where:
Everyone found something fitting for his/her interests. After we had decided our tasks we began in 4 teams. We had Friday evening to read and understand and finally to prepare our presentation. On Saturday we’ve seen an interesting presentation about “How is the life? ” We learnt about history, geography, economy, social, science and astronomy. Afterwards we had an exciting discussion about global warming, about religion and of course about Africa. And every single team had to present their presentations now. We heard about 4 different methods of the “Farming topic”. Everybody can use this knowledge in Africa not just those DIs who will work in the Farmer`s Club Project. But now after all theory: Let’s start to work! We went to the garden to use the knowledge what we got before. Some had already little experiences but it was mainly the first challenge of this kind for most of us. Our teacher was a perfect leader. We could see how we have to be in the lead in Africa. We learnt some tricks about good organising as well. During the work we were checking the work of the others, too. Thus we also learnt about all the other topics the others had chosen.
We are very different people from all around the world – with different thoughts on mind, attitudes , culture and maybe different religions.
We spent that weekend in a good mood, very enthusiastic, because we know that we are soon going to Africa and finally we were also very lucky and had amazingly good weather. Of course, we wouldn’t miss to listen to good music while we were solving our tasks in the garden. We did the best we could, we used the knowledge we gained before and we got many valuable experiences and basics for our work in the projects in Africa. When the sun set our work was finished. We were tired but proud as well because we reached the goal we had planned before. On Sunday we started our work with the same enthusiasm. The “final countdown” had started. First we thought we didn´t have many things to do anymore, but then everybody was busy the whole time anyway. Everyone had many more ideas of how we can use our new compost system and our vegetable & herbal garden. Finally in the afternoon we had an evaluation meeting where we had a close look on our work. How we can continue, what we have to respect in the future if we want to plant something, what are the next steps and when to do them. To let a nice and productive weekend finish in a good way we made a camp fire. It was actually also one of the a tasks. One team had to grub a little part for the basic and to cut some pieces of trees for the fire.
After dinner we had an extremely nice evening program. We were singing and playing guitar and laughing a lot. Although everybody was really tired, we still were in a good mood. The next meeting for the gardening committee was on Tuesday. We decided some responsibilities like who will take care of the ‘garden project’ further on and sustain our work from our GAIA Weekend.
